What is Hullabaloo? Hullabaloo is a 5 day celebration of swing dancing held in Perth every April. Hullabaloo includes a wide variety of events; with plenty of social dancing, swing dance workshops with international instructors, live swing bands most nights, a vintage-themed swing ball, crazy dance contests and a friendly atmosphere that typically attracts up to 200 local, interstate and overseas dancers.
Is it only for advanced dancers?
No way! Even if you have just started your first beginners' course there's something for you! The weekend workshops are divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels to cater to everybody – and what better way to introduce yourself to the world of Swing Dance than a week of live bands, friendly visitors and a variety of different events. Anyone who is interested in swing dancing, jazz music or vintage culture is encouraged to join in on the fun!
Who organizes it? Hullabaloo is presented by the non-profit Perth Swing Dance Society and run by volunteers. The PSDS is always happy for people to lend a hand, so why not volunteer to work with the team and help the party run smoothly! So what's this about registering? Hullabaloo is quite popular and events often sell out, so we ask people to purchase passes ahead of time. You can jump in and buy a pass to everything, or choose to do just the workshops or just the social events. Most social events can be paid for at the door if not sold out, but you'll save money by registering for one of the passes. It's worth noting that Perth Swing Dance Society members recieve discounted prices for all passes, and that discounts are offered for early payment. What's this "hosting" thing? One of the great things about the swing dancing community is that we're a friendly bunch. You'll find that if you travel anywhere interstate or overseas where there is swing dancing there'll be a local swing dancer willing to offer you a spare bed or couch to sleep on at no charge. In Perth we like to return the favour and ask that Perth dancers offer places to stay for our visitors.
